Old Record Club

Monday nights on 91.5 Phuket FM Radio are all about taking you back to a time when music was exactly that, music, as we relive all those classic hits from days gone by with the Old Record Club.

From 7.30pm until 10, we’ll be dancing through the decades and taking you on a trip down memory lane, bringing the superb sounds of the swinging sixties, the disco seventies, the new romantic eighties and the naughty nineties through your speakers.

Relax after a hard day’s night to the timeless music of artists like The Beatles, The Stones, The Beach Boys and Bob Dylan; get on down with the funky disco grooves of Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine Band, Stevie Wonder and the Bee Gees; relive the days of deeley boppers, perms and synthesisers as you listen to Duran Duran, Wham, Human League and Gary Newman; and remember the halcyon Britpop days of Oasis, Blur, Pulp and more.

For three and a half hours each and every Monday, you’re going to come down with a serious case of ‘Night Fever’ that can only be remedied by a prescription of funk, soul, rock, indie and more.

Tune in early to make sure that you are on board the boogie express as it is pulling out of the 91.5 Phuket FM Radio station every Monday night from 7.30.

Tuesday nights is all about the number twos with DJ Tue's selection of great music that only reached 'number 2' in the UK charts! Some of these hits were held off from the top  by some classic number tracks, but some fell short of the ultimate satisfaction of the top of the UK charts thanks to some less favourable pieces of music.

Who would believe that Robbie Williams’ ballad 'Angels' only reached number 4  in the UK charts! Many people believe that it was number one due to its worldwide recognition.  There have been many other hits that have been kept off the top for one reason or another and our show Two's on Tuesday on focuses on all the great UK hits that came second in the great chart race.

Classic hits that only reached number 2 include: Heartbreak Hotel (Elvis, 1956), Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields (1967), Magical Mystery Tour (Beatles, 1967), Holiday (Madonna, 1985),  Vienna (Ultravox, 1981), Last Christmas (Wham, 1984), Groove Is In The Heart (Dee-lite, 1990), I Swear (All 4 One), and Wonderwall (Oasis and Mike Flowers Pops, 1995).

Here are some interesting number 2 facts...

Jealousy (Billy Fury, 1961) spent a record 281 weeks on the chart without hitting the top.

Stranger On The Shore (Acker Bilk, 1962) was the longest running number 2 ever, staying in the charts for 55 weeks

Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields (1967) ended the Beatles run of 11 straight chart toppers.

Crazy For You (Madonna, 1985 & 1991) reached number 2 on two separate occasions

Vienna (Ultravox, 1981) was outsold by Joe Dolce’s 'Shadappa You Face.'

Last Christmas (Wham, 1984) is the biggest-selling record NOT to reach no 1

Strange but true: Kylie Minogue's Got To Be Certain (1988), Give Me Just A Little More Time (1992) and Confide In Me (1994) were all outsold by Wet Wet Wet songs !

Wonderwall reached number 2 with two different artists (Oasis, 1995 and Mike Flowers Pops).

Adelante (Sash, 2000) was their fifth number 2 hit. The band has never reached the number 1 spot. This must be a record.

For all of you rock fans out there, tune into the best rock show on the island, ‘The XtraOrdinary Rock Show’, with Miss X.

The show features all genres of rock music, from such classics as Black Sabbath & Led Zepellin, to guitar greats, such as Joe Satriani, to blues legends, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Eric Clapton, the grunge scene with the likes of Soundgarden & Alice in Chains through to brand new rock music of today, with the likes of the Kings of Leon and Cage the Elephant.

Independent music, often known as Indie, is a term used to describe independence from major commercial record labels and an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. Indie music is usually produced at a low cost, especially with today’s technology, some of the indie bands are produce in their own bed room. Since a cheaper, better and faster computer had introduced to the recording chain instead of having a huge studio with millions Baht of gears to produce an album you just need one good computer, some software and computer knowledge base music. You can produce your own album in your own bed room. Growing of the bedroom studio means the indie music scene growing even bigger, which mean more styles, artists and interesting stuffs.

Kicking off at 9 through until midday, resident sport anorak and encyclopedia Danny O brings you a recap of the week’s sporting action and results, looks ahead to some of the weekend’s big sporting fixtures and takes a brief glimpse at some of the smaller stories that have hit the headlines.
After 10.30, host Danny O is joined in the studio by special guests each week to discuss and debate the biggest topics in sport, providing informed opinions and answers to the questions on everyone’s lips and adding a touch of humour along the way.
But it’s not just international sport that comes under the microscope; all major local events also get the Danny O treatment of previews and reviews, ensuring that you don’t miss out on any of the sporting events that grace this paradise island of ours.

Under starters orders at midday through until four, the show will take a more in depth look at some of the issues raised in the morning, making sure you know everything there is to know about what’s been happening in the fascinating world that is professional sport.
From football to cricket and Formula 1 to golf and more, we’ll be there every step of the way, guaranteeing that you don’t miss a trick.
We’ll also make sure you know all the team news of all the biggest fixtures of the weekend, especially during the football season when the Premier League is the topic for discussion for so many people.
With four hours to play with, we’ll also bring you some great music to get you into the party mood as we head into another Saturday night on the Pearl of the Andaman.
