What are the Goals at Java Yachting?
Olly explained that Java will Promote Junior Sailing at grass root level Across Phuket and Thailand. Allow more children and families access to the boating industry through affordable courses and boat charters. Give children the opportunity to meet new friends and develop interpersonal skills, which should give children a sense of responsibility through decision-making and problem-solving.
This is so exciting for Phuket and Krabi to have such a modern fleet of boats and qualified instruction all ready to go.
Olly went on to say Java Yachting wanted to develop a sense of competitiveness and focus for individual sailors and teams. Develop a team of Sailors (Thai and International) who are able to compete at large regattas whilst promoting Phuket and Krabi sailing destinations worldwide.
What’s next?
One of the plans at Java Yachting is to introduce an Interschool Mini Regatta using the Pulse 600 Trimarans.
Currently, once a month there is a mini regatta and anyone is welcome to join the cost is just 1,000 THB per person.
Seems like great value and the price includes lunch.
Olly hopes to introduce the Interschool Mini Regatta in a few weeks with a typical itinerary:
9.00 am – Pickup from School or dropped off at Phuket Boat Lagoon.
9.30 am – Arrive at the marina. Welcome
9.45 am – Safety Briefing and boat orientation
10.00 am – Launch and proceed out to training area under motor.
10.15 am – Sail Training – steering, boat control, sail control, safe sailing

Finally, Phuket Island radio has been promoting water-based activities for the last 4 years. This promotion has been through their sponsorship agreement with Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek and also via a BBC News sponsorship agreement. Therefore the Java Yachting initiative is exactly fitting into our long-term strategy to help and participate in developing Phuket as a Water Sports Destination.
