Start with visiting Wat Chalong, which is one of Phuket’s most famous temples. This temple was built in 1806 by King Rama II to pray for his father who had died in 1781, and it has since been regarded as an important shrine.

The Phuket Town Memorial (Saphan Palang Thawon) is a large, black stone monument that commemorates the fallen defenders of Thailand during World War II.

“Songkran” which is celebrated in Thailand from 13-15 April and is renowned as ‘The Biggest water Fight in the World‘ Some people throw water to others, some soak the other person with a bucket and some just pour buckets of cold water on each other.

The annual Phuket ‘Songkran’ celebrations are held all over Thailand from 13-15th April.

What do they do during this event?

The celebration stems from the Chinese belief that abstaining from meat and other stimulants, whilst performing certain sacred rituals during this time will bring good health and fortune.

How would you describe it in one sentence?

The festival is an observation of sacred rituals and ceremonies that may shock and impress but may be too much for the faint-hearted. Ceremonies are performed to invoke the Gods which can be exciting and painful to watch.

We also have the annual Yi Peng Lantern Festival or Loy Krathong. This festival takes place on a full moon and it’s an important holiday to honour happiness, purity of thoughts, family unity and many other values.

Asalha Bucha day is the start of Buddhist Lent. The exact date for this festival is decided by the waxing moon and the lunar months which typically comes up in July according to the Thai lunar calendar.

You can travel from the south of Phuket, and visit two islands: Koh Phi Phi and Racha Island oh Phi Phi is famous for its Maya Bay where you can find the perfect sunset and clear blue waters. Of course, this is the setting for Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Beach with its sandy shores on one side and a beautiful rock formation on the other.

Racha Island has a beautiful natural lagoon which, in Thai culture, symbolizes purity and peace. The island also has many opportunities to go snorkelling or diving because of its proximity to some of Thailand’s most beautiful and famous national parks. Or, venture north into Phang Nga where you will find the infamous James Bond Island.

A dizzying array of stalls selling everything from imported clothes and shoes, DVDs, toys for kids or pets, fresh fruit and vegetables. This is where you can buy a suitably outlandish pair of sunglasses for just $20 or pick up an authentic Thai silk dress with a matching blouse.

Some people say that the best nightlife in Phuket is found in Patong.

If you’re looking for a more casual night out then the best choice would be virtually any of the West Coast resorts. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from with an average price, perfect for those who are on a tight budget or just want to have fun without spending too much money!

Another option is Patong beach where you can watch live performances while enjoying food and drinks in some of the stalls that line up along this beautiful stretch of sand!

The ambience at night is amazing, especially on Bangla Road where you’ll see neon lights flashing all over the place while people walk up and down it looking for somewhere to eat or drink or just hang out. It has everything from Thai to Latin American food as well as cocktails so there really is something for everyone here! Bangla Road is a people watchers paradise.
